Ann-Sophie Barwich is the author of a new book Smellosophy: What the Nose tells the Mind. Her book takes a deep dive into our sense of smell and how the Mind makes sense of scents. In this episode, Anne explains why different people perceive smells differently. She emphasizes that smell one of our most overlooked, yet keenest senses and that we can train it.
Ann is a cognitive scientist, philosopher & historian of science, technology, and the senses. Her research is based on observation and experience rather than theory or pure logic and specializes in our sense of smell as a model for theories of perception and cognition and the conceptual foundations of neuroscience.
