Before we begin discussing how CBD can be a valuable and vitalizing part of your skincare routine, let’s first address some burning questions:
Will it have me reaching for the Doritos and salsa? Will I be obsessively listening to Miles Davis records at four in the morning? Is it even legal?
There’s still a lot of confusion about the difference between CBD, THC, hemp, marijuana and cannabis, so here’s a quick primer. Hemp and marijuana belong to the same species, the cannabis plant. Marijuana contains 0.3% or more of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive component that will trigger your sudden interest in snacks and jazz; hemp contains 0.3% or less. Both also contain CBD (cannabidiol), a non-psychoactive compound believed to have a broad spectrum of therapeutic uses, from pain relief to anxiety management (in addition to being great for your skin).
So - does CBD get you high? No. Is it legal? Yes.
Why will your skin love it? Rich in antioxidants, CBD is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which can rejuvenate dry skin and repair damage, reducing the effects of aging. As a soothing, moisturizing base ingredient, it can be used in a variety of applications, but always choose the highest-quality components for your skincare recipes. Look for CBD isolate oil, which is the purest available, contains no trace THC, and is odorless. Check the label carefully for the CBD concentration: the higher the better. And be sure not to confuse these oils with hemp seed oil, which contains only tiny amounts of CBD and is better deployed as a tasty ingredient in your salad dressing!
